BOSTON, MA, February 12, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — M. Furkan Burak, MD, has been recognized as a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor – the second year he has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation’s licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors for their specialties. He’s also named among Boston’s 2024 Best Doctors by Boston Magazine.
Dr. Burak is an endocrinologist, a doctor who specializes in evaluating and treating conditions related to the endocrine glands, hormones, and metabolism. He has special expertise in immunometabolism, nutrition, and caring for adults with obesity and diabetes.
Dr. Burak is with Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension.
He is certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine — with additional subspecialty certification in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism — and the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Patients generally come to Dr. Burak through referrals, but they can make appointments directly as well.
“I listen closely to my patient’s story; I want to understand the patient’s perspective, journey, sensitivities, and values. Then we perform a comprehensive analysis of their immune-metabolic health and assess obesity and related complications,” Dr. Burak says.
Dr. Burak has been awarded numerous grants and honored with many professional and consumer recognitions, including the Charles A. King-Bank of America Trust Fellowship, Early Investigators Award of The Endocrine Society, United Nations Top Outstanding Young Persons of the World. He was the 2016 medical innovation and scientific development category winner and American College of Physicians national abstract winner. He has authored a number of high-impact publications, book chapters, and a U.S. patent for drug development against metabolic diseases.
Active in research and academic activities, Dr. Burak leads a group of translational immunometabolism researchers at Brigham and Women’s/Harvard Medical School and conducts basic molecular metabolism research at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is an investigator on multiple clinical trials testing novel treatments for obesity, prediabetes, and insulin resistance. He serves on the MassHealth Drug Utilization Review Board as the sole endocrinologist.
He has served since 2020 as a faculty member at Harvard.
Dr. Burak earned his medical degree at Turkey’s Kocaeli University School of Medicine. He completed two research fellowships in molecular metabolism at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health; a three-year internal medicine residency at Mount Auburn Hospital; and a three-year clinical research fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at Brigham and Women’s, a major teaching hospital of Harvard.
