Allowing containers would help fast-growing local businesses and help to improve the appearance of some businesses

HALTOM CITY, TX, March 17, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ — Haltom United Business Alliance (HUBA) is recommending that Haltom City allow the use of shipping containers for storage at local businesses. This action would make Haltom City more attractive to prospective start up businesses and help the city retain successful businesses that are in danger of outgrowing their spaces. Use of shipping containers for storage should be allowed in industrial zones and in commercial zones with sensible controls.

According to a post on the Sigma Container Corporation blog, “Shipping containers are a great, cost-effective option for homeowners and businesses looking for a portable storage solution. They’re easy to set up fast and affordable, which makes storage shipping containers a great alternative to setting up concrete or wooden structures.”

HUBA contends that containers are a good option for businesses in need of a quick and economical solution to an on-site storage problem. Containers can be set up quickly and affordably and are a reasonable solution for fast growing businesses that need additional space to store inventory or for other purposes.

Allowing the containers could also be a solution to another problem. Haltom City now presently restricts some kinds of auto businesses, including tire stores, from opening in its commercial zones.

“During the debate over these restrictions, proponents of the changes to the use table made the point that auto business like tire stores can be unattractive from the street because inventory is stored outside on racks,” said HUBA Communications Director Joe Palmer.

“One way to solve this problem without manipulating the use table would be to allow tire stores that store inventory outside to use painted screened shipping containers to store tires,” added Palmer.

“Other nearby cities, such as Fort Worth, allow the use of these containers, and that Haltom City doesn’t puts it at a disadvantage in the competition to attract and retain small businesses that increase choices for local consumers, provide jobs and contribute to the business tax base,” said Palmer.
