THE VILLAGES, FL, January 26, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Shrikanth P.Y. Upadya, MD, has been recognized as a 2023 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the ninth year he has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation’s licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
An interventional cardiologist and managing partner of Cardiac & Vascular Consultants, Dr. Upadya evaluates and cares for people with cardiovascular issues to help them avoid events such as heart attack, stroke, and limb loss.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.
Dr. Upadya has special expertise in performing high-risk angioplasty and other interventional procedures to treat coronary artery disease; atherectomy and other limb-saving procedures to treat severe peripheral vascular disease (PVD); and stent placements to treat carotid artery blockages.
He sees patients at practice locations in The Villages, Lady Lake, Lecanto, and Leesburg, Fla., and is affiliated with The UF Health The Villages Hospital, UF Health Leesburg Hospital, and HCA Citrus Hospital.
“It’s very gratifying to help elderly patients to be active from a cardiac and vascular standpoint,” Dr. Upadya says, “especially patients who need honest assessments of their cardiac issues. I find great satisfaction in providing the right advice and treatment.”
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
“I am very humbled to receive this recognition for so many years,” Dr. Upadya says.
Dr. Upadya earned his medical degree at India’s Mysore Medical College. He completed a four-year internal medicine residency at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., serving as chief resident in his final year.
He then completed four fellowships: one year in heart failure and cardiac transplant at Yale New Haven Hospital; one year in non-invasive cardiac imaging at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital; two years in general cardiology at Bridgeport Hospital; and one year in interventional cardiology at Lenox Hill Hospital.
